Hello everyone, starting a new adventure with a 490! Although I am much more familiar with the 1930s chevrolets I have and will have many questions for the 490 folks. First question-- is the radiator mounting brackets and hardware the same for the 1916 and 1917 models?
Thanks,
Chuck

Hi Chuck,

The 1916 and early 1917 Thermo syphon big top tank rad and shell are both the same and the rad core tank and brackets are soldered directly to the shell. The2 flat coach type bolts hold the whole unit to the front crossmember. The early 1916 490's had the painted on Chevrolet bowtie badge only and it was not until the later years that the enamelled badge was used. Depending on how early your car is as to weather it had the duplex front springs set up. there are a number of places on the car that have dates stamped on them you just need to know where to look. Gearbox , Firewall steering mount front axle and rear springs all have dates on them you just need to pull the parts off to see them. Gear boxes are dated in the housing and were just number stamped. Hope this helps. regards Dave
