I'm attempting to clean up and undo stupid stuff done to my 1960 Corvair sedan by the many former owners. At one time the inside rear window was subject to a terrible job of tinting and when someone removed the dark tint it left a film on the window that resembles wax paper and has defied removing with mineral spirits, heat, razor blade, etc. Any ideas on a way to remove this a lot more then inch by inch. Doing this also puts you in an awkward position to get good access to it.
Any suggestions are welcome.Thanks.

You might try 3M adhesive remover.

If all else fails try acetone. That stuff will even remove gas tank liner.

Try heating a small patch of it with a hair dryer, then take a wool scrubbie and some GooGone and see if it comes off easily.

I think the tint films of those days was glued with a detergent based solution so the same solution (no pun intended) may well be the answers you are looking for, no guarantees though.

Just so you know acetone is in finger nail polish remover. Be careful it is very flammable! It also takes the heat from your hands quickly when it evaporates, wear gloves.

I would check with some established window tint shops they should know what would be the best way to solve your problem.

Easiest thing might be to remove the window so it’s easier to work on. If the car is insured with glass coverage, park it next to a baseball field, wink, wink. Then get a whole new rear window. You didn’t hear that from me.
