First it will be necessary to remove the old line .This will require removng the push rod cover on the right side. There you will find the long half .Disconnect it from the connector that is between the rocker shafts pull the end down thru the head.Lossen fitting that goes into the side of the block (it will thread out of the block)Remove same fitting from block on left side as well as fitting on lower end that goes into block. At this point if you straighten out the bends it should pull out of the block(pulling from the right side should be the best if in car)Keep thenew line straight and insert aim for the hole on the opposite side, this will take some patience to find the hole.
thread larger fitting into left side of block after bending line to fit in lower hole.Install small fitting into large fitting which will seal water leaks.Connect lower end to block (lower)feed source.Install fittings on right side of block in the same manner(be careful if not sealed well this will leak water into the oil and can not be seen after side cover is installed .Carefully thread up thru head and use new fitting on end to connect to rocker arm connector. ..........line (comes with new fittings) is available from Chevs of the 40s...1-800-999-2438....Parts required,,#609912 oil line,#602336 side cover gasket, And #3694248 valve cover gasket and a lot of luck.

Doc, Yes the 216 has the tall side cover that goes way up to the valve cover. The 235 engine (from 1950 and up) has the short sidecover. What is your 216 in??car, truck?? the 52-53 216 will transplant in place of the 235 in these years as it had the side engine mounting bolt holes necessary between 52 & 54 unless the '51 and earlier mounts were used to "set" it on the front crossmember. ...Just a side note..the 1941 thru 1949 truck 235 engine had the tall side cover and used the same cyl. head as a 216.

If I were to put a full pressure 235 in an early chassis I would choose a 53 Power Glide or 54 P.G. or stick .It will require almost no modifications and you will not need to do the water pump modifications required on the 55 & up engines. The stick engine has solid lifters other wise no important differencs.

Patricks auto parts has a great catalouge and includes a great deal of infomration on how to determine what year 235 your are getting as well as infomration on how to install one. 53 manual and prior power glides had a 235 but they were not the full pressure system. the 53 PG and all 235's after that were full pressure. If you get a 55 or later there is a special water punmp available with short shaft. or as a fiend of mine did you can cut the shaft of the standard pump youself. talk talk
