My son is thinking of installing 4.3 litre V6 in his '51 Chevy 4dr sedan. My question is, is there enough room for this engine and will the current front suspension be strong enough? Thanks in advance, Bob

Are you worried about the increased weight of going from an inline 235 engine to a 262 V/6? I would think the V/6 is probably not as heavy as a 235 inline 6. If you are going this direction why not put in a 350? ,same width engine. Will it fit? any engine will fit in any Chassis, it is just a matter of how much you want to butcher and modify.

I understand that the long-6 is heavier than a V-8 and the V-6 is the lightest of the three. I know first hand from having all three on my engine stand. The suspension will surely handle the 4.3 liter and may rise a bit from lack of weight. I plan on putting a 4.3 V-6 (230 hp) in my 1950 Willys Jeepster just for the weight savings from the original flathead-6.

Great link you supplied there Cosmo. I didn`t realize that my SBC was 125lbs heavier than a small displacement V-8 Buick,Pontiac,or Ford.
