Took the driver's seat out today to make easier access under the dash.
Saw something that made me wonder about it.
On the body bolts just ahead of the outer seat brackets is a heavy square washer/spacer with a tab sticking up from it.
What is this for?
Since we cannot upload photos (or can we?) you may email me for a photo if you wish.

Chris, that square plate is to act as a washer and to hold the body-to-frame bolt in place as the body is lowered, or married, to the frame during assembly. The tab should have been bent over the head of the carriage bolt to hold it in place. Maybe it wasn't bent over completely, but was bent just enough to hold the bolt.

In addition to what Bill said, that plate is designed to spread the load on the wooden body sill and avoid having the carriage bolt pull through the wooden sill over time. The plates are available in reproduction and there should be four of them -- two just in front of the front seat and two just behind the front seat.

After reading these replies, I looked at the car again- passenger side was straight and flat with the tab down against the carriage bolt.
Driver's side has been knocked crooked and bent up on one side sometime since 1935, so now the tab is not snug against the bolt. That is why I was not certain what it was for.
also, I am a member- how do I post photos? don't see any place to do so......

Click on the button on the bottom that says "use full editor". When that opens then click Attachment manager. You then should be able to go to your photos and double click the photo you want to add. Click on the done button and when you go to the thread it should be there. If not come on back and ask for more help. It might vary somewaht depending on how you store your photos and your operating system. I am using windows 7 and firefox browser thru comcast and it works real easy and I am not very computer literate.

Chris, Are you a VCCA member? If so you will need to contact one of the elves (I am one) who can verify your VCCA membership with some basic confirming information and change your status on Chat to VCCA member. Name, VCCA membership number, partial address should be enough. Once you are listed the photos meeting size restrictions can be part of a post. Otherwise you will need to have the photos on an internet site and then include a link. That way the photo can be larger and more detailed and VCCA membership not required.
As m006840 wrote we will try to help where we can.
