The dash gauge on my 50 car is bad. I have removed the plate on the firewall for access. The temp gauge is on the same panel as the fuel gauge. Will I need to remove the temp sender in the head? I can't see any other way .

Yes, you will need to remove the temperature sender if you want to remove that whole panel.

The temperature gauge and sender are a sealed circuit. Be careful to not damage or kink the thin capillary tube.

It is amazing how reliable, durable, and accurate those old mechanical temperature gauges are so long as there is no physical damage to them.

i was able to remove the gauge cluster far enough through the firewall opening to replace the fuel gauge on my 50 without removing the temp gauge..it’s a little tricky, but can be done.
