Looking to change the fluid in my 32. I have found that I need 600w but wondering what the exact procedure is. Is there anything special I need to do? What are the capacities? Does the free wheeling unit get changed separately? Where do you fill the trans from? Any help on this would be great! Thanks for your time!

The lubrication information is in your owner's manual.

The transmission is filled from the pipe plug on the side of the transmission case.

Thanks for the reply. I have filled the trans and free wheeling unit. How full does the universal joint need to be. I have looked through all three books I have and can not find anything about how much fluid to put in the universal joint section. Thanks!

The small amount of oil in the U joint ball does not drain out. The U joint ball is slowly fed oil from the transmission or freewheeling unit so after miles of driving it will get fresh gear oil.

Thank you. I guess I should have explained that I took the universal joint apart to replace a few gaskets and the fluid drained out. Should I just put a little bit back in for now.

Just found a tech article on filling station with the answer. Thought I would share. It say to fill the universal joint section with about 1/2 pint of 600w after disassembly. Hope this helps some other people. Thanks for the replys, this place is the best!

We have had many discussions here in the past on how much fluid to put in the universal joint housing. No more than 4 ounces should be used.

Interesting, my 50 coupe manual says 8 oz......

1937 Chevy 1/2 ton Pickup
1950 Chevy Styleline Deluxe Coupe
1953 Chevy 1/2 ton Panel Delivery

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hubcap than ride in a Ferd.
