My gas gauge reads abut 1/8 full. I have a new sending unit(tested for correct ohms before install) as the old one was completely rusted. I removed the sending unit wire and grounded it with the power on . Nothing changed. The car is 12 volt but I installed a 12-6 Runtz reducer. I haven't done any thing to the dash unit. I don't know how to test it. Can someone help?

Yes, problems with fuel sending units and gauges can be frustrating to troubleshoot.

I was a little confused by your comments about installing the voltage reducer but you have not done anything to the fuel gauge on the dash.

The voltage reducer should be in the wire that sends power to the fuel gauge. That makes the gauge and sending unit circuit operate on 6 volts. The fuel gauge will possibly be damaged by 12 volts.

Another possibility is that the reducer is defective and there is no voltage going to this circuit. I know it is a pain to reach but you might want to check the voltage at the input side of the gauge. Remember that the sending unit is downstream from the gauge.

I did install the voltage reducer at the dash. I have ordered a new dash unit.
