Started connecting some of the new wiring on my 38 but when I looked at the generator connections they didnt match what was printed in my manual. I have a Delco Remy 943r made in Canada with a 2 wire cutout mounted on the outside and if I remember correctly is a 3 brush unit. The cutout is marked on 1 side is marked "BAT" but the other side is unmarked, my thinking is this should connect to the output terminal of the gen to disconnect the 2 but the field terminal has the lead with appropriate connector.
The other question have is where do I connect the other end of the 2nd wire, I think it should go to the ignition switch via a small light (which wasnt fitted before).

Hi Tony,

Let me find some details on the generator wiring on my '37 Master coupe. It is very similar to the '38 truck.

Hi Tony,

My '37 car has a 948R generator which is the same one that was used on '38 trucks. The '38 cars used a higher output generator with a 2 wire regulator which included the cutout..

The wire connected to the cutout (BAT) connects to the load side of the ammeter. That is the side that has a fuse and powers other things on the car. The field wire goes to the resistor terminal on the light switch.

This wiring diagram is from the '38 shop manual.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for that explanation, I read the tag as 943R but will read it again next chance I get, I may have read wrong. I pulled all of that out 35 to 40 years ago and didnt take a camera with me then the moving storage 4 or 5 times didnt do the old fibre insulators any benefit as most of the terminal nuts and screws were loose and the part of the fibre fuse holder and resistor were floating loose in the box.
I have worked out which terminals on the light switch for tail and headlight but there is 1 terminal that doesnt seem to be connected in any position of the switch, this maybe the 1 that others have posted about to do with charging.

Maybe I can help you figure out that terminal. Based on the 1941 Master Parts List all 1937-38 vehicles used the same light switch (1869613).

This is the original light switch wiring on my '37 Master coupe. Note that there is an unused terminal. When I installed the new harness I have the same wiring connections.

That light switch looks like mine though there is a used insulated terminal on the other side of the switch that may have been where the generator field wire was connected to the resistor unit which I have found but the resistor has a break. The other end from the insulated end seems to go to permanent ground which I doubt should be the case.
