I found that my fuel problem was the fuel pump. However, I originally had decided to take the gas tank out and have it cleaned.
Now, my '41 Chevy Business Coupe runs great, but I don't see how I can reattach the straps. I can get the socket on the two bolts
on the rear ends of the straps. However, the ends near the seat are loose, and there isn't any room to see how to attach it.
I know this may sound silly, but is there a trick to attach the straps, or do I just have to empty the tank and start over? That tank is really in there tight.
Help. Thanks,

Dan.

Try using longer bolts to get the tank up where it belongs then switching out the longer bolts for the shorter ones. I have a 41 sedan so my room might be different, but I think that is how I got my tank in place. Also you are dealing with a lot of weight if there is gas in the tank so that might cause the tank to be in an awkward position making alignment impossible.

Good luck, Mike

P.S. Let me know if a picture would help of my sedan straps?

Mike: The tank goes into the interior of the car. It is a Business Coupe with no back seat. The neck of the tank doesn't come off. I guess I will have to drain the tank and somehow try to attach the
straps. There is a hook on one end and a bolt on the other end. Thanks,

I have some pictures when I disassembled my 38 coupe that I could email you? Should be similar. The seat (forward) end of the strap hooks onto brackets on the floor and I believe the rear side of the straps used the "T" handled bolts. It was unusual so I don't fully trust my memory thus the pictures. I'd try attaching the seat side of the straps BEFORE swinging the tank into position so you can access the brackets.

You are right. I will drain the tank and proceed to follow your instructions. I had a feeling that was the answer. Thank you so much!
