I have a 35 Chevy Standard Coach with a Carter W-1 carb. All the pictures I've seen have 2 springs going from the oil pump to the carb linkage. One is connected directly to the linkage arm to the carb and the other is connected to a little tab. What is that tab and what does it do? It seems to just move with the linkage arm but nothing else.

Oil pump? The oil pump is inside of the oil pan. Do you mean a bell crank that is on the driver's side of the engine block behind the carburetor?

Doesn't the bell crank have to do with a transmission? I'm talking about the little gizmo that is bolted to the block right at the lip where the oil pan bolts up to directly below the exhaust manifold next to the dipstick. It has a little brass tube that goes back into the block.

That is not the oil pump......that is the oil distributor. The bell crank is not in the transmission........the bell crank should be on the side of the block and it pivots on a bolt that goes into the engine block. The bell crank is located right above the oil distributor and the accelerator rod connects at that location and so does the linkage that goes to the carburetor. Check your shop manual.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Just didn't know the correct name. The rod connects to the end and the linkage goes up to the carb. What is that other little tab that the other spring connects to and what does that do?

This is a picture of my 34 Master. I haven't looked closely but it appears it's for the throttle linkage.

There is a pin about an inch and a half sticking out of the rear of the oil distributor body. it has two groves in it to keep the springs in place On spring (front) goes to the lower bell crank lever. The other spring to the hand throttle link.

Thanks for the picture. That cleared up some stuff. Mine wasn't together when I got the car so I was guessing where the springs went. I have the heavy spring hooked up to the hole that your cable is going through and the lighter spring is hooked onto that tab like yours is. I don't have anything hooked up to where your heavy spring is. That makes sense now because now I know what the cable holder that bolts to the top of my intake manifold holds. Had no idea what that cable holder was for, especially since it held the cable vertically and not towards the carb. I have looked but couldn't find any pics of this. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Yes, I thought it was the oil pump. I knew it had something to do with oil. When I saw the pic with the cable coming down through the hole things just started falling in place. Thanks for your info. I've got the repair manual and there are no pics of that set up anywhere.

I put all the springs where they belong, hooked up a throttle cable, and everything looks and works great. Thanks guys.

Is anybody aware of a supplier for the correct springs? In particular for a 1936 FA Master
