I am looking for a replacement floor pan to go under the rumble seat. Is the floor the same as a coupe?

First the 1937 and 1938 is different.
Going by the parts book description.
the main floor pan is the same for the Cab. and rumble seat coupe. For that one 1937 and 938 are the same.
Pan, rear compartment floor. sedan and coupe the same (938 only)
The best that I can determine from the body manual the fron and rear panels join almost just below the rear seat back or the highest point of the floor in that area, or would be just foward of where the rumble seat foot well would be.

Using my 1935 std roadster as an example.

A rumble seat floor where your feet would go is different than a trunk floor. The floor steps down about 4" deep and the panel runs from just over the rear end forward too the front seat.

When I got my rumble seat floor panel back from enviro tech metal strippers I found I had a swiss cheese mess.

What I did was remove the floor panel and have a metal forming company like METAL MART bend the correct thickness and do the area in the proper degrees , mine was 10 on each sloped end. I also had them bend metal for the sides in an L shape. Those new rails got welded , MIG to the main pan. For the area that goes up to & over the rear end. This part was in excellent shape and we sliced it with a zip cutter and joined it together to complete the pan .

If your old floor has stiffening ribs, use a spot welder cutter bit to get them away from the rusty pan. Weld all the spot welder holes up in the stiffener ribs and then drill new holes too re-attach them to the floor pan. I used 10/32 button head allen heads with nylocks nuts .

Not sure if those people that make the 35 and up sheet metal parts would make a rumble seat floor pan ????

While the 1935 floor was made in that manor the 1938 MAY BE COMPLETELY DIFFEERENT.
The 1935 floor was nailed in place while the 1938 body had a components welded into a solid unit.

Gene, think the basic premise of having to construct a new floor panel is a given as doubt anybody makes it.

Air powered zip cutter and spot weld cutter should get it out so a new one can be fabricated.

Or the poster could take bondo and slap a coat on, sand it semi smooth, paint it , followed by a glued in carpet to hide everything, as I found out had been done to mine.

Thank you Chev Nut. I have heard that there is a fabricater in Arizona that is making new floor pans for 1938 chevys but they do not mention Cabriolets. Thanks again! John

That's an old post, he only has three posts and hasn't been on the site for nearly two years so he likely won't see your message. He has not email listed in his profile. You'll probably have better luck sending him a PM.
