I had my bumpers and bumper guards chromed on my 38 Chevy. Of course the black accent paint is gone. What is the suggested method for reapplying it? Obviously paint, but will it stick to slick chrome. I'm really hesitant to scuff and paint. Suggestions? Was this paint a gloss, semi,,,,,

Thanks

Semi gloss is about right I recall. You can paint the chrome but you'll need to scuff the finish, prime and then paint it.

The front will still tend to chip so others that have these cars suggested black electrical tape which is easy to maintain...

TONY...............**.one shot ** poster & pin striping paint , sold in pints comes in gloss black and I believe the enamel that it is , will stick to the chrome surface without scuffing it. ???

You might have to scuff with 3M pad, then mask and spray with aluminum stainless steel etching yellow primer.

Read the back of the can. Generally sold in art supply stores or you can order it online or off ebay .

I believe I have seen those prewar chevys , some of them with red instead of black.

It is a fairly high gloss paint.
For my '39 I had trouble with the paint sticking to the front due to driving into rain, bugs, etc so I used eletrical tape. Was the correct gloss and width. Worked very good. If it gets tacky after several yeays it can be peeled of and new applied.

If you decide to paint and need to scuff the chrome use electrical tape to mask what you dont want scuffed. Normal masking tape will not last long. Also electrical tape or pinstriping tape will give you a smoother edge when you paint.

I did not paint mine. I used electrical tape. That's what was on the old bumper. As stated earlier, it is the correct width. I also trimmed some of the tape and used it for the small slots on the bumper guards. It's been on there for about 2 years and has been holding up just fine.
