Are the locking clips on the lifters supposed to be free floating or stuck on the lifter or the round adjustment or doesn't it matter at all. Before I took the engine apart I had some in all three positions. I don't see anything in the manual

I don't know if you have received an answer to this question yet, but my experience is that the metal clips wear and chafe from engine vibration, so would have probably been at the tighter side when new.

Thank you for your reply,I haven't put the head on yet, I have noticed the clips are notched differently on the top side so that may be the only requirement. Waiting impatiently to get the car back from the paint shop.
