I've just purchased a Taillight assy. Looks like for a 35-36 Master like is on my Coupe but the base is bigger and the arm is longer. Could it be for something other than a Coupe?

The Base is 5-1/2" x 1-1/2". The Arm is 9-1/2" total to the longest point on Base.

JON.......if you look under the tail light arm and on the rear of the tail light pot, you take them apart by unscrewing a screw that goes thru and L bracket on back of the pot. Easy way to spot a 35-36 pot.

These tail light pots do not fit 33-34 -35 standard or 33-34 master tail light arms. They look identical to the 33--35 pots, but the rear mounting area does not line up properly.

The tail lights pictured and arms are for 35 master and 36 master and standard, as too whether they fit sedans or coaches or coupes, I do not know.

The point of your question. Chevrolet must have produced a couple of rear mounting arms for 35 and separately for 36 depending on body style. Similar to the late 1934 all of 35 standard where the body grew 2" longer and fender mounted tail lights were not long enough and they went to the bumper mount style....

The pot with the O ring for license plate on the car is an original , the other with the glass lens for license plate is an aftermarket supplier probably an EVELITE .

Ya, your right struggled with that.

Okay to get the tail light arm away from the tail light pot, flip it upside down to expose the underside. There will be a hole in the arm, insert screw driver flat tip and undo the screw to separate the parts.

You will notice once you get the pot off , an L bracket on back of the pot is there. That's how you easily identify 35 master 36 master and standard tail light assembly.

If you place that 35-36 pot next to a 33--35 pot you will see the difference. Shape is different.

If you put a 33--35 tail light arm up to the 35-36 pot, doesn't fit correctly.

Discovered all this when a like new tail light pot right side with no license plate hole I was going to use, did not fit . Figured out what it was and listed it on ebay and sold for crazy money on auction.

I'm sure this is a 36 Pot because of the Glass Rect. piece for the License Plate light. The 35 is round with no glass. I got the Bucket off the Stand with a socket. But I still don't know what it fits as the base is bigger than my 35 Master. Did they make a later version and make it bigger or is this for a different model?

JON, my knowledge of 35 master and 36 master std is limited.

If I owned this part I would google as many pictures as I can find of 35 masters and 36 master / standards and examine them closely to see if I could spot the shorter arm mounted on.....coupe, sedan , coach ?? and also the same for the longer black arm.

Must be a reason why there is 2 versions.

If you have sales brochures for the 2 years involved that might be a good place to start.

EVELITE is the genuine GM (Guide) lamp. I have seen aftermarket lamps with no markings and some with markings. KYLITE is a common aftermarket brand.

Check the filling station pages for the base gaskets, My car ('36 Standard) used a different size because it is called a Sport Sedan. Maybe they have some info..

I believe the above is correct. The 36 coupe used the shorter taillight arm and other styles used the longer arm.

That would explain the Arm but what about the base? Is it bigger also? Looks like 36 Town Sedan, Sport Sedan and Coupe with Pick-up box used that unit with the 5-1/2" Base. That may answer my question.

Looks like it from the pictures you first showed , that the mounting arms where its mounted too the fender , is larger and longer.

The other end of the mounting arm that attaches too the tail light pot , is larger on the 35-36 master than the 1933--1935 series.
