After reading some old posts on my water pump removal, I was able to get the pump out without removing the hood, radiator, and grill shell. I found my baffle plate was missing about 4 years ago. I had one installed that somehow came loose and wore down to half the size. It made some very interesting noises finally forcing me to investigate. No damage, but lots of brass dust in my coolant. Now I find I have to install a new baffle plate. Does anyone have a trick up their sleeve to properly install one with the radiator still in place?

If the baffle was spinning in the block the opening will be ovesized and a new baffle will need to be epoxyed in. That will require removing all rust in the iron. The new plate should fitright in with no force due to the opening being enlarged.

Good point. Thx. Any preference on epoxy? JB Weld or Marinetex etc.?

A good friend recently rebuilt the water pump on his '33 Master. He found that the baffle plate's outside diameter was a bit too large so he carefully filed the outside edge until it fit snugly.
Last year when I rebuilt the water pump on my '27 truck, the new baffle plate was a little loose in the hole so I used a tiny dab of Permetex #2 between it and the housing to hold it in place.

Got the new baffle from FS. She fits like it was made for it. I put a few small dabs of JB Weld so I can sleep. After 83 years her hole was a little loose too. The rebuilt water pump is painted. Should be able to crank her up tomorrow. Re-chased all the bolt threads. I cleaned out the grease cap and fitting. Much to my surprise, there is a spring, cup and steel ball in it! I guess it prevents over greasing. Does anyone have a diagram so I know it is in right?

The 1935 Std. Water Pump is only for 1935, part no. 837608. Check to see if your pump has not been changed out for a later (improved) part. (It is possible to place a later (improved) year pump on. So the diagram for 1935 may not be your pump.)

She is back together. Waiting for "cure time" on gasket sealer to pass. (I feel like an expecting father) then I will flush/fill er up and crank er up. ????
