Every time I let my 31 sit for more than a month without starting it, I have trouble starting it. It usually takes two people, one spraying gas into the carb while the second works the starter and choke. Will an electric fuel pump solve this problem? I've never used one on any of my vintage cars but I also have never had this much trouble with cold starts. All thoughts appreciated. I see one available at the Filing Station.

One other note, the fuel pump bowl seems to stay full so I don't think the fuel is draining back to the tank but I am not sure. I do expect that the fuel in the carb is evaporating.

I have electric fuel pumps on a couple of my older Chevys. They are there as an auxiliary to the mechanical or vacuum pump. Yes, you can install an auxiliary pump but may not really want to. The longer an engine sets without running the more oil will drain off the parts. Instant starting with little oil film is probably the most damaging situation. Cranking slowly while the oil begins to circulate is far better than higher RPMs in a "dry" engine.

Very good point, thank you Chipper. It would make sense to crank the oil through first.

I don't have problems starting my '31, but I did install an electric fuel pump in the gas line (With on/off switch) just in case I'm out driving and the mechanical fuel pump goes out. It'll save you a lot of trouble and able to get your car home or to your repair shop. Good insurance !

My Chevy is over 70 years old and still running great. I hope I keep running cuz I just turned 81 !!
