Can anyone tell me what the most popular color combinations are for a 69 chevelle ss 396? Is a white top more desired than black? What interior color and finally the exterior paint. I have several favorites, but know my taste isn't necessarily what most people like.

For ME, the best is three-way black. Black body, black interior and black vinyl roof. However there were many good color combos for the 69 Chevelles/Malibus. One of the colors I didn't like in the past has grown on me a lot over the last 10-12 years. It's called "butternut." A very light yellow. Often seen with black interior and black vinyl top.

As for what color (for you), I'd say it's mostly "owner's choice." Maybe tempered with whatever the original color is/was. Some guys feel it's best to re-paint (restore) to the original color(s).

You can click here for the 1969 colors .

Edit by ME: Oops, sorry I just noticed you mentioned convertible. Well, I'd still go with a black convertible top. Obviously, I was originally writing about a SS coupe/hardtop.

Wow, thanks for the color chart. The car was originally frost green. Really don't care for it much. I have always liked the butternut yellow, just want to pick a color that isn't going to be disliked should I have to sell one day. Looks like I have too many choices! Thanks.

BG,

Always nice to have good info, like the color chart.

Getting to your original question ".....what the most popular color combinations are for a 69 chevelle ss 396? Is a white top more desired than black?....." -- I suppose you could get that info someplace. But, maybe not. Maybe no records like that back then. I simply don't know.

At least you now have the colors that were available.

Am going Lemans blue with white top and stripes. Using blue carpet. The interior is black, but in good shape. May switch that out in the future for white....

I've been wondering if we were going to hear anymore about this..... good to get your update.

I would bet your blue / white color combination was very popular on the 69's. Probably one of the most frequently used.

It will be nice and gets lots of looks when you're finished.
