I was going to pull my one good pin and give you exactly what Dave did. He beat me to the punch, so to speak.

I was curious why the nail portion on my two are both bent the same. If you do ever pull yours it would be interesting if it is bent like mine.

The person installing the nails was doing it from one side and the hammer was bending them , based on direction of hammer blow.

Oak is really hard and easily bends those type of nails.

Most were made of ash and nails usually drive pretty well into ash.

Most confuse old ash as being oak and use oak as a replacement. One would hope they used white oak which is suitable for cars and not red oak which is not. Of course a lot of cars built in Oshawa used maple and nails don't go good into that. Further to this many plants (even in the US) used local hardwoods so there are a number of other suitable woods that can turn up (i.e. birch, sycamore etc...).

Made up one pair of pins last night because I had a few minutes to spare. Need to make up at least another pair. Turned them on my lathe out of a 1/2 steel round rod. Thanks for the measurements Dave, they made it so much easier. One picture is the two originals from Dave with the bent nail portion. I made my nail portion a little longer but all other dimensions are what Dave gave me.

Cabboy, I just went back and realized you had asked to see pictures of the springs. Rather than post some pictures here, I've attached the link to my google photo album on my Olds. You'll see all kinds of pictures and a lot of the springs.

Thanks for the link. I do not know if the 29 rumble cushions are the same but the pictures give me a good idea how to make some.
