I was looking for some info on what fan shroud goes on my 66. I cannot find a good picture anywhere. When I bought my car it did not have a shroud and a couple people told me that is the reason it runs hot. I would like to find a complete assembly including brackets and whatever else I need to make it work.

There are several shouds listed for 1966 327 engine full sized cars. That indiactes your car whould have one. Some were metal and some plastic. There are shrouds for No AC, with AC, with or with out H.D radiator, and for Ca. cars with AiI.R. pump. and so on.Also the 327 engine cars should have a fan clutch and a larger fan I believe. Will check later. The lack of a shroud will make it run hot a low speeds and when car is not moving.Over 40 or 50 MPH you can throw the fan away and it will not overheat.

If engine has been switched and was originally a 283 some of these parts could be mixed...

The radiator core should also be at least a 3 row - 4 would be better.

If all parts are original and correct, fan clutch working, and core clean it should not overheat.

The car has said mounting shroud, but the fan is 4 blade and is about 2 inches from the core, there is no clutch. The car originally had a 283 and I just put the 327 in this winter. I used all the parts that came with the car, I did not know it should be any different. I bought a shroud off the internet and talked with the guy selling it, he said he took it out of a 66 Impala and said he would send the clips that hook it to the radiator. I hope it works or I guess I am SOL. I don't know if the cars were different in the same year, but it seems to me if this guy pulled it out of a 66 it should go back in a 66, maybe there is a difference from the SS to the standard coupe. I guess I will find out (most times the hard and expensive way). Thanks, Mark

There are about 6 different shrouds for 1966 283 and 327 cars...Depending on engine equipment, AC, heavy duty radiator and Cailfornia cars with the air injector pump.Plus several more for the 6 cyl and 396-427.
Note that being an Impals, Bel Air makes no difference as long as its a full sized car. What makes the difference is the engine equipment combination.A Super Sport could have had a 6 cyl,283,327,396 engine with or with out AC.
Some cars like yours used just the mounting shroud. The ones with out the mounting shroud used a plastic shroud behind the core - but not both.
Your best move would be to find a 7 bladed fan and fan clutch that an air conditioned car or just a 327 would have had. That big fan really pulls the air thru the core at low engine speeds but cuts down the fan speed at higher RPM's.

Thanks, you would'nt know where one would aquire said fan and clutch. I looked on a couple sites (Impalabobs and such) but had no luck locating these parts. Also, if I find a shroud and put it on do you think this would solve the running hot problem. I have replaced the thermostat with a 180 degree. I am really having a hard time finding out what my car had originally, everyone I talk to has a different opinion on what the car would have and should have come stock with. I am trying to keep the car as original as possible but this is proving to be quite the chore. I am to a point where I would just like the car to run correctly original or not. I know they sell aftermarket fans but they are fiberglass or plastic. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark
