I'm just going to throw this out to you guys (and gals) to see what you think. My mother recently went into a nursing home and left her 1965 Impala that has been sitting in her garage undriven for the last 11 years. It is the 2 door hardtop "convertible", small V8 283, automatic. I want to sell it because I am working on my 1939 Master Deluxe. I've had the engine brought up to running condition (new rubber, battery, alternator, Etc.) and the gas tank cleaned. I didn't have the engine rebuilt as it just purrs with about 90,000 miles on it. I'm having the body professionally brought back to "like new" condition. (it wasn't in bad shape to begin with) It is now in a primered state ready for paint. The original color was what I call an aqua green...The interior is black. Now for one of my questions...should I have it painted the original color (I'm not sure the aqua color would go over big today) or should I paint it another original color that is a little more "jazzy" like the red?? Secondly, where would the best place be to advertize the car...I live in Colorado. Any thoughts on a fair price? (I know that is often subjective) Any other thoughts will be welcomed. Thanks in advance and best wishes,
Chuck

For a stock original 65 2 door HT.
Why not put one in the G&D for free?

I see in your profile you have a VCCA membership number.

I would place a classified add here and also on Chevytalk Classicar ot other free sites that have free classifieds.
To get an idea of a fair price try...
Price Guide
If you don't like their price try elswhere, Hemmings, etc.

I'd say what color depends on several things, including your intentions for the car (sell it or keep it), what color YOU THINK it should be and also what color YOU LIKE. If YOU THINK it should be original, you obviously will have to paint it the original color. And that would be just fine. If nothing else, it would be ORIGINAL. And some folks really like 'originality.'

IF it was for ME (and if I had decided to CHANGE the color), there's only two colors a car should be. Black or Red. Black if the sheet metal is razor straight. Red if the sheet metal is "only" very nice.

If you're likely selling the car when it's completed, keep in mind that some folks refer to red as "resale red." And generally that's because it's true! Most often, RED does indeed (help) sell a car.

Hello Garbo

As Bill says red is for resale but don't let the aqua colour scare you, after 10-15 years on the car without wax it may have looked pretty horrid. A brand new coat of the original color with maybe a little extra clear coat on top could really spruce up the car. I own a 1966 Chevelle that is Tropical Turquise a little darker in color than your Moms I think, and if you want to change colors maybe that would suit your fancy and would not be changing away from an original GM color.

Good Luck with the project.

PS Anyone know of another 65-66 like this FOR SALE close to BC, preferably wagon but most importantly a good frame???

Thanks to all of you for your insights...they gave me much needed food for thought. I had seriously considered keeping the '65, but my '39 keeps me plenty busy...I would consider a 20s or 30s truck in trade or sell the '65 and then scout around for a truck...Anyway, thanks again and,
Best wishes,
Chuck
