I've got a 68 307 V8 2barrel in my 64 Bel Air. I'd like to put a 4brl carb on it, so it's going to require a new intake manifold.
The 307 has the oil cap on the intake manifold, which is sort of odd. Most of their engines, AFAIK, have the oil cap on the valve covers. When replacing the intake manifold, do I need to get one that has the oil inlet, or do I need to replace the valve covers?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks, Justin

The 4 barrel carb. will require using a 4 barrel intake manifold. The 1968 intake had a oill filler tube.Yes, if a later 4 barrel intake was used a new place for adding oil would need to be found and a valve cover would be the best

After '67, Chevy did away with the oil filler tube and changed the valve covers to the type that has oil fill hole and pcv valve hole in one cover, and a breather hole in the other.
If you want you engine to look original, you will have to locate a 4-barrel intake with the filler tube. They are not that rare and are found on Ebay.
I didn't know Chevy made a 307 in '68. I believe they only made the 283, 327 and 350 SBCs.

MI2600,
You also left out the most powerful stock sbc of 1968, the 302. It wasn't available with a four barrel to my knowledge, however. The 307 was considered a smog engine back then, and it wouldn't have made a great deal of sense for it to have a four barrel.
