Been looking around the internet and haven't found an answer. Can anyone tell me the differences between a 34 and a 35 high cab pickup? Also what was changed for the 36 high cab? Thanks in advance.

The High Cab and Low cab designation only applies to '36 trucks to differentiate between the two cabs used during that model year. All '34 and '35 trucks had the tall cab so no need to give the cab a name. Cosmetically, I can not tell any difference between the '34 and '35 trucks. Mechanically there are differences. In 1934 Chevrolet used a double cut key. You can tell by looking at the slot in the ignition switch or door handle if it is intended for the single or double cut ket. If the dimple is in the middle of the slot, double cut, if the dimple is at the top of the slot, single cut. The '36 High cab is a peculiar animal. The bottom corners of the windshield frame are rounded instead of sharp, as in '34/'35. All or most should have all metal doors (no wood). I think they also have the '36 instrument panel with gauges in front of the driver and a glove box. The '34/'35 trucks have the gauges in the center and no glove box. Oddly, the '36 Low roof is a partial year only cab also. The windshield is 1 inch shorter (top to bottom) than on a '37/'38 cab. The door checks are leather straps rather than the metal straps used on the '37 and later trucks. All '36 pickups had hydraulic brakes. Early '36 1-1/2 ton trucks still used the mechanical brakes from '35. I hope this is the info you wanted. If I have got something wrong here, I'm sure someone will correct me.

Thank you very much Mike for the info. I am collecting parts to build a 34/35 and everyone I have bought from says it's a different year yet the parts look identical. I am sure I will have more questions in the future.

What you are doing requires a Chevrolet Master Parts Price List Book...Parts Price List, Six-cylinder Models 1929-1942... Reprint of these can be had at Chevs of the 40's or at other on net supply places. This is not an expensive book and will answer your questions of what parts fit for what years.

Mike Thanks Mike. I am working out sorting what all I have bought recently. Looks like i have 2 sets of 34 doors and one set of 35 doors. So far I know I am missing a rear bumper and brackets, and the grill insert. I have noticed that the inside door panels on two of my door sets are smooth and the set that i think is 35 has a stamped dent on the one door. What would this dent be for and is it really a 35 door? I think those doors may be from a bigger truck.

'34 doors and '35 doors are identical as far as I know. '36 High Cab doors look the same but are usually all metal (no wood). If you have a RH door with the indented inner panel, that is a '36 high cab door. '36 big trucks had the gas tank under the seat. Some had a filler neck sticking out the passenger side end of the seat riser. The scooped out place in the door panel is to clear the filler neck. Jim Carter reproduces the grille screen in polished stainless steel. I have the best used painted original in captivity. It includes the center moulding and crank hole cover. It is for sale. I also have a super nice windshield frame and hinge (with wiper motor) as well as some others, nice, but not as nice. I have a really nice instrument panel with no extra holes and a complete gauge set for it. When you figure out what you need, you should come and see me. Where are you?

Thanks Mike. I must have doors from the bigger trucks as the nice pair of doors I have has the scooped out section.
I may be interested in your grille screen but not at this time as I have spent my hobby budget on all my recent part I have bought.
I am located in Dittmer MO which is just south of st louis. i can be to columbia in about 2 hours.

Josh, There is no difference between the big truck cabs/doors and those for the small trucks. Are your "scooped" doors all metal or do they have wood framing?

The all wood kind are up to early '36 All metal frame doors late '36. [late is a design change that will not fit early '36]. The '36 year is a cross over year between wood frame and steel frame doors. Few '36 had the wooden frame. Try to stay with your year and match that year for best results.
