Hi,

I'm a fairly new VCCA member here and trying to learn the ropes in regards to Judging.

I've downloaded the forms and manual. Unfortunately I'm still confused as to which Judging type I should enter.

I've attached a video of my 48 Fleetline on youtube for your viewing. 1948 Fleetline Aerosedan

Hopefully someone can give me some advice on what type of Judging type I should enter.

Thank you,
Art

Regular class judging. You will begin as a Jr. and progress to a Sr.

Every car begins with 1000 points and any incorrect, missing, or broken part will coause poits to be deducted.

Two incorrect items I see are the painted stripes on the head light rims and the Fulton sun visor. Also the Fram oil filter.

Hi Chev Nut, thanks for your input!

Do you know if the oil filter would be large point deduction? I don't see a oil filter deduction mentioned on the class judging form. I see the 100 point mandatory deduction for wrong engine.

I'm also not sure how I can get the painted stripes off the headlight rings? You think that would be a large deduction also? In regards to the visor, I can take that off but not sure they would ding me for the mounting holes in the body.

The amount of points deducted would be determined by the judge and his knowledge or lack of it. I would suspect the stripes would be about 3 points and 3 to 5 for the oil filter. There are so many 1948s with Fulton visors they may not even notice.

Gene, you advised regular class judging as opposed to HPOCF.

Would you please clarify for me ( once again ) as to the difference between regular class and HPOCF ?

HPOCF would be for an original (not restored) car like your Corvair.
Regular judging would be for a restored car. From the video of the 1948 in question it apppears to be a restored car.

your Corvsir could be entered in regular judging if you wished,

I'm not sure about the car being restored though. The mileage is at 6700 now. It could have been rolled back but the car looks fairly clean and original.

If it was restored, I'm guessing it must have been in the 60's or 70's.

If I enter in the regular class judging, wouldn't I be going up against other cars that are fairly recent restorations?

I've seen other 48's that are restored and the interior from Hampton Coach looks different than mine.

I've attached some close up pictures for critique.

Thanks.

From time to time H.C. offered different materials as they could not always come up with the correct match. The 1948 interior was kind of a one year only gray tone and not always available. I see n problems in the pictures and is very claos to original.

So do you still think I should enter the regular class judging? I've been driving this car every weekend since I got it. What about the CDPC certification? Maybe that would be a better fit since the car may be an older restoration that would not stand a chance in regular class judging.

Depends on your goal. CDPC is the route I chose with my truck, long ago. A few years later, I decided to go the “full Monty” and had her judged at another meet. I prepped Blue for weeks, cleaning and polishing and making sure all I could could reasonably do and change to specs was completed. To my total and humble surprise she ended up scoring her First Junior Award. So...go for it!!! You just might be surprised yourself. Good Luck!

Your 1948 is a restored car, not original. To get certified you will need two of the catagories at least to be original.
Your car looks to have a new interior and the maroon does not look original and the engine and under carriage appear to be repainted.
The car will easily make a first Jr. and then step up to a Sr. from what I see....I could be wrong but that car appears to me as being restored and then driven 6000 miles since.

Probably would be a good idea to find some one in your area that could actually see the car and verify if it is original or a great restoration.

Is that a car jack in the trunk? If so, could you please take it out and post some pictures of it down in the '48 section. Thanks

I agree Gene! I really need someone to see this car.

I got it from Peters Motor cars in Norwalk Ohio. The story I got on the history of this car was quite intriguing and caught my attention. Hence......I ended up purchasing this beauty.

Hopefully I can take the car to the American Originals car show in Tustin CA this weekend and have someone give me an idea on the originality of the vehicle.
What I found a bit weird was that the radio was a Motorola unit with a remote receiver box under the left side of dash. It's actually still there. I ended up purchasing the correct Deluxe 48 radio.

Ruscar.......I'll post the jack right now.

Some dealers installed Motorola radios so that is not too unusual. Would cost a few poits if the judges noticed.
Did you check out the correct AC oil filter on Ebay?

Was the Motorola an upgrade over the deluxe radio? Or did the cars come with no radio at all. The dealer brochure shows a delete panel covering the radio dash cutout.

The Motorola radio was not a GM product. Some dealers installed them because they cost less money. Some owners installed them later in the life of the car becuse the Chevrolet versionwas no longer available.
In 1948 there were just two COMMONLY installed Chevrolet radios. One with push buttons and one with out. In 1948 the car came from the factory with no accessories and the dealer installed them. This includes the heater.
If the radio is a Motorola I would suspect the antenna is incorrect also.

Art... If the car has been painted then you can pretty much assume it won't do well in the HPOCF class. Put it in regular judging. It looks really nice and should do well there....

Those accustomed to the finest...find it in Chevrolet.
