Toms Classics offers a really nice looking complete kit for this mod. Has anyone done this with any kit? I like everything about my Bel Air except braking.
Any pros or cons ?

I have a 52 and can lock the wheels anytime. Only had to do it ones when a dog ran out in front of me.

52's have a better brake system than 50's that has the Huck brake. All my system is new and I stop ok. I want better brakes.

I know all about the Huck brakes. I had a 37 for over ten years and had some issues with them like one wheel locking up.

When you lock the brakes up you lose 20% braking efficiency. The best braking is the point just before the wheel stops turning.

The Huck brakes worked OK on the 1936-1948 cars but for some reason they ae terrible on the 1949-1950 models, especially with Power Glide or with a 3.55 axle ratio.

Luggnutt - On my 50 Belair w/PG, the brakes were sub par at best, then a local Chey guru (on this forum) modified the brakes and they were very good.
Traded the car away and have forgotten the specifics, but it was a more modern master cylinder (maybe 54?) and reduced diameter front wheel cylinders (year??).

for my 1950 PG I installed the after market brake floater pins and a 1953-1954 master cylinder. Gave about a 25 percent improvement.

Making the bottom of the shoes float would help not only in the forward direction. It means that the wheel cylinder pushes the front shoe onto the drum, as the drum rotates it forces the front shoe the put the rear shoe to the drum and then there is double force on the rear shoe effectively creating power assisted brakes.
The next generation brakes were basically a redesign of this that worked well on its own and improved more when vacuum assistance came along.
