Should the G&D Magazine be made available to the public? It might boost membership and notoriety. Old issues are available by fellow members but nothing current. Pro's/Cons?

VCCA members have access to a list of over 50 Technical Advisors who can help you with your car. It's worth the price of membership! While you can get a lot of information for free in this forum, sometimes the info that you REALLY need is only available from the right person. This is what "The World's Best Chevrolet Club" is all about!

I don't see how dues paying members would be able to provide the G&D for free to the public and have us still have a G&D. Most of us belong and pay dues because of the G&D. Giving it away for free would make most members stop paying dues. Why pay when you can get it for free?

Absolutely not! I totally agree with Brewster. The VCCA already gives a lot of perks away free to the public like most of the chat site and also technical advice. The G&D should remain for dues paying VCCA members only. Old past issues of the G&D could be given away free to prospective members at swap meets and other venues, but the current magazine should not be made available to non-dues paying members. Also, this discussion should probably be moved to the "Members Only" area.

That makes 3, the G+D is a member item and should remain so and also this thread should be in the members section. Tony

If the G&D were to be available to the general public the VCCA would surely lose its "not for profit" status. When the VCCA was audited many years back it was made abundantly clear that differentiation between members and non-members was mandatory.

Along this line of thought, I recycle my read G&Ds. I take my old copies on my next doctor visit leave them in the waiting room to supplement their year old issues of National Geographic.

I agree 100% keep it the way it is. When I go to car shows and talk with other car owners I tell them I am a member of the VCCA and get lots of answers to many questions and advice about my cars.Maybe they will join maybe not but I let them know VCCA is available!

Who said give it away free? $5-$6. a copy is what I was thinking. Not for profit has nothing to do with relieving some of the cost to publish. We as members pay for it in our annual dues. If you look on ebay members try to sell old issues. The only thing free is our opinions!

I don't think we need to be in the "publishing" business which is where selling the magazine would put us.

G&D should be for members only. In fact, it should be for preservation and restoration members only. Let the Street Rodders, modifiers. chop tops, muscle minded. et al join but get no G&D. After all, what good is it to them anyway. If they want to get a monthly issue make it a month old and after they sign an affidavit that they will change their ways. This could be controlled by having any potential member send in a picture of all their old vehicles showing engine, tires, wheels, stance, number of tail pipes, and any other items that are not original to the car. Yep. I agree with JD and Uncle Ed. This matter should be in the members only forum. Ok, Mike Lynch, I waiting for it. Don't get me started. Charlie
