Many times in the past, I have seen new front brake camshaft lever rod housings (group number 5.135) for sale at swap meets, on eBay and through parts suppliers. This leads me to believe this is a part that had a frequent failure rate. There is nothing wrong with the ones on my car, but I am curious as to where on the parts the failures occurred. Does any one know?

Bill,

Most I have seen that fail suffer from the crumbly pot metal sickness, the others I have seen that are questionable have cracks where the cable goes in. While we are on housings does anyone know what the differences in 30-33 housing 357998 and 34-36 housing 374440? The Filling Station shows one housing, GR-201 for 29-35.

Poor engineering on the part of Chevrolet. Since having good brakes is critical the brake lever housing should have been made out of steel instead of fragile pot metal. Pot metal tends to disintegrate with age.
