I recently replaced the factory installed front and rear AC Delco shock absorbers on my 1952 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe. My son has discouraged me from trashing them because they can be restored and displayed on show cars for judging. Is he correct and if so, what value do they have? Fred Serfass VCCA #52403

IF they are original they will be of the sprial design. That is sprial groves running around the shock body. This design was used by Chevrolet up intp the '60's and are desired by some to make the car look original. They are not in demand that much for 1952-1954 cars but more for the 1955 and up. I can not recall them be stamped with AC Delco but the later Delco shocks were. Also the originals were painted black.

Both the front and rear shocks have the spiral design. The front shocks are marked Delco products, Dayton, Ohio, 6B 52-5394251, 538
f-3C6/OL. The rear shocks are probably marked also but are covered with undercoating which I haven't removed. My 52 was in storage for years and I am certain these are factory installed shocks. I hesitate to relegate them to the trash if someone has use for them.

You might want to check that information, Spiral Shocks were used through the 70's as late as 1977 that I know of. The original delco shocks are on both my Cosworth (1975) and Monza Mirage(1977)

The numbers you posted indicate that they are 1952 shocks. What threw me off is when you said AC Delco in your first post. The AC was not used for shocks back then, just Delco. Your old originals would be OK for a car used just for show and would be correct for 1952-1954 models.
I didn't have time to look back to see when the sprials were last used. Figured that it was not pertinent for this discussion but your info. is appreciated.
