I just put a holley 750 on my 454 '66 bel aire. The car won't start and it backfires gas out the top post(although it did run very smoothly for about ten seconds). This is my first carb swap and It is completely possible that I made some stupid mistake.
Anyone want to guess what sort of gas mileage I'm going to get. I hope to break 9mpg.

Hi clem,
First question? Is the intake manifold specific for the Holley?
Make sure you have the proper base gasket - no vacuum leaks are wanted.
It sounds terribly lean. If you close the choke does the condition improve?
Watch those backfires - they can rupture the power valve on a Holley....

Is that all you did just the carb sounds like an ing prob wires crossed or timing did you install an intake with the carb you can run the engine by putting gas in the top of the carb with an oil can and it will not back fire as you say it,s doing..doc
