I've been battling to get my 1927 Capital running, with every trip out not lasting long because of strange noises, coming to a stop or backfiring when actually getting into top gear...well i've repaired the fuel pump, rebuilt the rear axle, straightened a bent torque tube, fitted correct length plugs, new coil and corrected the timing that i'd set incorrectly ( hadn't moved the ignition to fully advanced ). Well i finally made a trip there and back to a village pub without a problem, but i have two niggles i need advice on...

1/ is there meant to be something like a fibre resistance disc between the horn cover and ignition advance lever to stop the lever returning to the retarded position?
( i've currently rigged up a wire hook that is attached to the hand throttle lever that i hook onto the advance lever to stop it moving once advanced.

2/ when driving spiritedly around a sharp corner ( i've had it on a left and right hand turn with the road rising on one and dropping down on the other corner ) the rear stepped out as though the brakes came on . Does there need to be a bit of free play in the rod set up somewhere to allow for axle movement under variable road conditions?

Mind you it has been nice to have a trip out and back as i was starting to lose faith.
