1961 was the first year of the narrow whitewalls.

The 1961 SS Impala and the 1961 Corvair Monza were the first cars to have the narrow band white walls. They were wider than 1/2" though.Would be at least 1".It shrunk down to 1/2" in the later years. The balance of the 1961 cars had the 3" -all 1962 had the narrow band type.

If you want a radial 1-1/4" WWW, I found them thru my local Firestone dealer. They are called "Dimension IV". The ones I bought were P205/75R15 and they were $67.00 each (2004 price). Installed price, including all the NYS taxes & fees, was $300 for a set of four tires. They look great and ride better. Can't beat the price for touring tires. -Bob
