Anyone know if pn 1848515 for starterator is the same as 1858725 for 35 distributor vacuum control?
Look the same.

They look the same but are different internally.

Now that really makes me curious. Why would the engine need to run any differently with a different method of starting? Maybe it allows more retard?

I would guesss the spring inside has diferent pressures.

The spring is light and returns the diaphragm. Vacuum is much stronger.

It has nothing to do with how the engine runs.
The vacuum diaphragm for the starterator is what pulls the starter linkage away from the accelerator linkage when the engine starts.

There must be some difference or Chevrolet would use the same part number. There are instances where the same part number appears in two group numbers in the parts catalog.

There were three diferent vacuum advances for 1933-1936 engines. All looked the same but had different advance cailbration for different engines. Then ad the starterator control you have four. The only actual different was the strength of the spring that worked against the vacuum.
The control for the starter probably had a stronger spring necssary to work the complicated linkage.
