Your example is not a USA built 1958 Chevy pickup serial number.

Below is a USA built serial number example for 1958 CHEVY TRUCK.

1958
Sample Vehicle Identification Number is: 3A58A000001

3A* Series: (D-1171, H-1271, 3A-3100, 3B-3200, 3E-3600, 3G-3800)
58 Last two digits of model year (55>,56,57,58,59)
A Assembly plant (A-Atlanta GA, B-Baltimore MD, F-Flint MI, J-Janesville WI, K-Kansas City MO, L-Los Angeles CA, N-Norwood OH, O-Oakland CA, S-St. Louis MO, T-Tarrytown NY, W-Willow Run, MI)
000001 Consecutive Sequence Number
* ("V" prefix indicates a V-8 engine)

Decoding: …3100 Series
…1958 Model year
…Built in Atlanta, Georgia
…The first truck built

Thx for the quick response. Vehicle is currently in Canada, and was acquired a decade ago in Cincinnati. Is there a similar source of info for a '58 GMC pickup? The subject could be a GMC with a Chev grille.

Dash had been customized to accommodate add'l gauges (over a Chev dash). In other words, is not a correct GMC dash.

All of which raises this question . . . other than distinctive grilles and of course model badges, are a basic '58 Chev cab and a basic '58 GMC cab identical?

Here is some GMC info, perhaps a GMC member may add comments, as well.
