i've got my 27 Capital starting on the button but on its initial road test a rotating scraping noise emanated from the drive train, initially i thought it was the knackered prop shaft front bearing and bent torque tube but after replacing bearing and straightening the torque tube the noise was still there. It was traced to a worn roller cage rubbing intermittently on the inner bearing race on the differential bearings.
Now my question is does anybody know the exact measurements of the original New Departure 0208 bearings so i can locate an equivalent in the UK , or have a bearing number for a modern roller or taper bearing that fits?

thanks in advance.

That bearing was last used in the 1929 passenger car differential Was sold under Chevrolet part number 902208 - ND # 0208.
Try a new Departure bearing search of the ND number. I believe that I found the bearing in so doing using a Bing search.

You might try these folks, I had good luck in getting quite a few obsolete NDH bearings from them. I did not check the availability or international shipping policies.

The equivalent of the original angular contact New Departure ball bearings(ND 0208) in a taper roller bearing is a 30208,whether it be Timken,NTN or most any other brand. It is just slightly wider than the original ball type, but there is more than enough adjustment on the crown wheel carrier adjusting nuts to compensate for the extra width.

cheers for the info , CJP'S 29 thanks for the confirming that taper rollers will fit, i'm ordering the 30208's crown wheel assembly and I'm getting 6307 sealed bearings for the wheel bearings. What threw me was expecting the bearings to be imperial when they are actually metric!.

For future reference for anybody that wants it the bearing measurements are as follows

Crown wheel assy bearings = 40mm x 80mm x 18mm ( standard angular contact bearing, taper bearing is 19.75mm )

Wheel bearing = 35mm x 80mm x 21mm

All the bearings in the diff are metric,as are the gearbox bearings as well.Rear axle bearings are a 6307,front pinion is a 5205 double row angular contact bearing,rear pinion is a New Departure1307 maximum capacity(the equivalent is a BL series in NTN,a BL307),front g/box is a 1207 ND(originally)or a 6207,rear g/box is a ND 1306(originally)or a 6306.
