I have been doing a mild restoration or paint job on my 29 AC International Coach. I'm trying to get my headlamps back together properly and I continually have sloppiness or movement in the headlight bucket assembly. Is there anyone who can post a schematic showing the proper assembly of the headlamp unit?

its probably the carriage bolt your using. Automotive carriage bolts are sized different than what you buy at home depot. The square part is sized different and so is the head.

Terry, where exactly is the looseness? Is it where the light mounts to the car, or is it where the lens and reflector mount to the light bucket?

It is where the lens and reflector mount into the bucket. I am using all hardware and parts that were on the car for the last 30 yrs minimum. I feel that I am simply assembling in the incorrect manner, possibly the outer ring clamp being in wrong or the order of assembly incorrect?

Terry, I also suspect a defective or missing seal between the lens and reflector. Although it is of a later model, this illustration will give you an idea of the order of assembly. The part number of the seal (group number 2.735) for your car is 354792. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_41/41cp057.html

Yes, likely the thick cardboard seals are missing. Closed cell foam could be a replacement. The seals need to be hard enough to stay in place but flexible enough to provide a seal if the parts are not 100% flat.

I had a similar looseness in the headlights of my '27 LM truck. I made my own gaskets by cutting them out of an old inner tube. The material was thick enough and flexible enough to work.

No I have the paraffin coated seal. I was putting the clamp on backwards. I have it straightened out now. Thanks gentlemen.
