Can anyone tell me what the voltage out put is on a 1952 chevy generator? When I bought my 37ChevyMD from the farmer up here, he told me that he had changed out the old generator with cut out relay, to a gen. and voltage reg. from a1952 chevy. Now, everything works ok, I was just wondering what the voltage output would be? The ID tag is so banged up i can't get a # off it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, __________________ joe's 37

If it is a 1952 generator it wil be the first year of the "short" generator. Then there were two different generator voltage, regulator combinations used in 1952. The early had a band around the housing at the brush area and the late did not. The volt out put was 7.4 and amps was 37 for either. The cut out opeed up below 6.4 amps at idle speed. Those two generators and regulator were used in 1952 only and designed to use less copper as a result of thr Korean war.
Short 9 1/2 inches long VS long at 10 1/2".....long used from 1940-1951.

Thanks Russel & Gene, it is the shorter gen. and has the band on the brush area. But is the output supposed to be 6.4 or 7.4 volts?? __________________ joe's 37

At over about 600 RPM it should be 7.4 volts. This would be with a warm generator and a fully charged battery. This 7.4 is not determined by the generator but by a proper adjustment of the voltage regulator.regulator which determines both the voltage and amps on a system with a voltage regulator.

But is the output supposed to be 6.4 or 7.4 amps?? On the above question, it should be volts not amps.
