345chevy is correct the trunk/ luggage compartment/ boot all refer to the same section of a car, hood and bonnet both are engine covers, roof and turret refer to the passenger cover. There are several other parts that are known by different names around the world but I am not about to start listing them here or now.

RORY, when your out at car shows / cruises with your Holden Australian bodied roadster your going to have to talk like an Auzzie. Boots, bonnets, petrol tank and all of that .


I think U should list them all so that RORY can talk the talk of where the car came from, even if he has a yankee accent.

Hey Mike want to get in the back of my DICKIE so we can cruise the venues?

Last summer my girlfriend and I were eating in this small restaurant in Hyannis Cape Cod MA.
2 elderly couples sitting next to us asked what dish we were eating.

Very friendly couple and as we talked they had a funny way of wording there sentences!

I asked them if they were from Australia and YES they were retired on an 8 week vacation here in the USA, had taken them 16 hours to CA and then another 6 hours to Boston Ma!

They were the COOLEST Australian couples with different ways of phrasing sentences!

We became friends and of course I gave them a few of my Cape Cod beach home rental cards for them or their friends next time they come out to the States to visit and need a place to stay on the ocean!

Do I also have to get the glassy eye look as I climb in , like something magical is going to happen , because I am in the rumble seat . LMAO

I may go to Hibernia NJ to get some nitro lacquer custom mixed for my touring and will contact you about a visit to see your stuff, even tho 3 of them are fords.

I'm interested in your knowledge of Holden built 34 Chevys. We have just finished restoring an original Holden body 34 Chevy Standard commercial roadster (no rumble seat) and from what I have read there were 31 Standard sports roadsters and 45 Standard commercial roadsters assembled in Australia in 1934 but some information out there contradicts this. Regardless of the numbers these are a great looking car in short supply.

According to Norm Darwins book there were 259 Commercial roadsters built and 191Mercury series sports roadsters and 31 Standard sport roadsters. I do not think there is any difference between the latter two and although some will argue that there was no such thing as a Mercury series, the body tags on some Holden bodies were stamped MERC. I posted some photos of a couple 2 or 3 years ago.
I would say the figures Norm printed would be correct but it would be impossible to say how many have survived. From my observations over the last 50 years or so I would guestimate around 40-50.
