Two months ago when this car was driven the engine ran fine. Now the motor runs along evenly and begins to miss and backfire through the Carter RAKX0 carburetor. The manual says this is an indication that the fuel supply is exhausted. The Stewart vaccum tank supplies plenty of fuel through the disconnected fuel line. The points are adjusted to .025 . This I have checked and rechecked. I have removed the carburetor from the car disassembled and sprayed the parts four separate times. With my test carburetor the engine acts the same way.now what?

Forlornhope I had a similar problem years ago. I took the vacuum tank apart and cleaned it out. End of problem. There was some rust build up at the outlet valve. Steve

I would like to say thank you to SSG26K, Chev Nut and CJP'S 29. THe vaccum tank was providing plenty of fuel. The condenser was bad. Thank you all.

yep. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good. They can weaken due to age so if they've been sitting in stock somewhere, they could be bad from age and normal chemical action inside...

It is far too common for condensers to fail out of the box. Moisture and poor manufacturing are the two major culprits.

Yes, that is an excellent article. Explains the condenser/capacitor very well, in understandable terms.
