There's a 1970 chevy impala that has been sitting in the same spot since 1987, and I was planning on restoring it. It is completely rusted, and I know for sure it needs a new battery, seats, radiator, and so much more, but I have no idea where to start. I will be posting pictures soon. It is in pretty bad condition. Can anybody tell me what I should do first?

1st welcome to our chat site. I think you will be able to find the answer here of most any question you may have.

Friendly advice, If it is totally rusty, turn and run.

I would pass on the car. In plain English it is not worth restoring. Could cost $20,000 to restore and worrh less than 1/2 of that when done - if it ever gets done.

If you could post a picture it would help in order to give you an honest answer. If by "completely rusted" you mean that the sun has burned off the paint from the roof, hood and trunk surfaces, that is surface rust that could possibly be remedied. If there are holes in the fenders, rocker panels and lower door areas then Ray's advice is the best - just walk away and search for a better example.

If the main frame is rusted through you will have a massive amount of work to restore it. If you can see rust through there is bound to be a lot that you wont see until it is cleared and cleaned then there is still more that you wont see that is near through. As kaygee mentioned surface rust is easy to remedy.
