I don't keep up or pay any attention to judging. I just filled out a vcca show registration form that asked for my last award info which I was gigged 16 points for radials. I DROVE the car over 40 miles to get to that show. I purposely took off my bias plys for safety reasons. Crow hopping in and out of N.Y. potholes is not safe. I have the same feelings about buying new incorrect tires. In reading the post here on "tires" I wonder if there has been any progress on this issue. Particularly the issue that Gene brought up in the other post applies to my 1935 Standard.

Well, there you go. The judges want to keep it simple, Bias-ply tires for the cars that they came on.

If they started making adjustments for all the variations that can be used on a car then the weight of the rules book woulld exceed the tax code,

Not only that but pretty soon someone would want to start using hydrogen (whatever) in the tube and/or tires. There would be no limit to what would be proposed, If we make it difficult for the judges then pretty soon there won't be any.

Put your bias tires back on, Dodge the potholes,

BTW: 16 points off does seem to be a little heavy on the penalty scale.

I have Radials on our NOVA and the documentation that it was sold new with Radials but the Judge told me they did not have Metric Radials in '74.

Could have come with metric tires if your car or tires happen to be made in Canada. Even the US based manufacturers might have started using both metric and Imperial sizing on the tires since most of the world was using metric to some degree by mid 1970's.

Seems dumb if it's equivalent sizing matches the originals as you really don't want 40+ year old tires on a car anyway...
