I agree with other postings, if it turns get it running if possible then you can best asses any faults that may exist. If you have access to a camera on a stick have a look through the spark plug holes for rusted bores (some may rust if they been resting for a long time). Change to engine oil, crank it over (at least 2.5 turns of crankshaft) by hand to check for stuck valves before trying to actually start it.

Thanks for the kind words, Mike. When I wrote that list, I was thinking about all the stuff I did to my '28 Canopy Express (Justin) before trying to get the engine running.
My approach was to leave the engine for last. I knew that when the engine started, I'd want to drive it, so everything else needed to be taken care of first.

Just find you a running 235 and it will bolt in,depending on the year of the motor you will have issues with the water pump but no big deal. I have a 37 p/u with a 57 235 and a T-5 and it goes down the road just fine.

Keep in mind Patrick's and others have headers, multi carb intakes and cam kits to hop up those 54 and up 235s, so you can really soup up those mills and push some nice horses out. They sound cool with dual exhausts also. Other options besides dropping in the typical SBC motor (350) as the entire planet does.

I have read about some having serious problems getting parts from Patricks,something happened and they are not like they were years ago.
