Has anyone purchased a Hydraulic Stabilizer for the steering that is made for a Model T Ford?
Also, what shims and springs work in the drag link for a 1916 Chevy?

I have read where,some have installed a steering damper from the air cooled vw bug,haven't seen pictures so am not sure how,

I bought the shims and springs for the Model T for my 24 but they did not work. They may be for the earlier model and might work on your car. If you find they will you can have the ones I bought.

I purchased a stabilizer for 4-wheel drive when I had shimmy. It was much harder to steer.
Finding an alignment shop who knows how to set the angles cured the problem and stabilizer
was removed.

Hi Teachman,

I have an early 1916 Chevy with the Duplex front springs and I chased the wheel wooble for years,listening to all the experts? Try shims, try higher tire pressure, try lower pressure, balance the wheels, change the toe-in and all made no difference and the car would develop a savage shake that would require bringing the car to a complete stop as quick as possible as it shook the car so bad. This would happen at lower speeds and usually started on uneven road surface and going around a corner would start it off if the road was bumpy. It maybe one the reasons that the Duplex style was changed to the single wider lower front spring model but even they have the same problems with wheel wooble.
After fighting with the problem for many many years and finally wanting to drive the car I purchased a Model T unit from Snyders and it fixed the problem straight away and although its not original when painted black you really don't notice the unit.
If you check the adverts of the period there were steering stabilizers for sale in the day.
Having an early 1916 with the steering box on the timber firewall the last thing you want is the shaking of the body and breaking the timber firewall. Go ahead and put the stabilizer on the car and enjoy driving it and forget about the critics.
The piece of mind in knowing that the car will behave gives you a chance to relax and enjoy drive.
