I have a sedan delivery, serial 58B124520 and am trying to find out which plant it was built at. I was told this car was built in Australia, but after contacting a club there, was informed that only 4 door sedans were built there in 58. As far as I can find, this is not a U.S. built vehicle. Help!

58 = Model Year

B = Baltimore Assembly Plant

124520 = Serial number starting a 1001

According to the Standard Catalog of American Cars, in '58 the first digit in the serial number was a letter signifying the model; the second and third digit was the year; and the 4th digit was the assembly plant - "A" representing Baltimore. That's why I thought this car was built out of country - the serial number was completely different than the norm.

And the Standard Catalog of American cars is correct, but your didn't give me a letter preceeding the 58 model year. There should have been a vehicle "series" designation letter preceeding the 58. I would have expected to see a serial number something like A58B124520 for your vehicle. A = 1500 Series; B = 2100 Series; C = 2400 Series etc. There are many serial number identifiers and some with multiple letter usage.
