I broke a hood spring last week. Anybody got advice on finding a "new" pair? Any hints on replacing them? Looks easy, but I bet it's not.

Local rod shop says they can get me some chromed or stainless springs. That would look strange on my old beater.

New hood springs are available from Classic Chevy International-1-800-456-1957 or classicchevy.com...To install bend spring to one side ,insert flat washer (large) between coils, bend opposite direction-repeat-repeat-----until spring is extended long enough to install. When installed remove washers--no special dangerous tools required.

You may also find the hood springs at
www.58chevy.com

The springs are not an exact duplicate of the original. I believe the originals had 16 coils - the new may be 14 coils.

I find that if your assistant holds the hood up beyond its normal travel, the new spring should "snap" right into place. dance

Interesting trick with the washers! I could apply that elsewhere as well. Thanks y'all.
