Gentlemen,I'm looking for a set(16) 7/16" X 20 acorn lug nuts that will fit my '25 sedan. I've put this in the parts wanted section but I didn't think it would hurt to ask here as well. Not everyone looks in the parts wanted forum.
Thanks; Steve

Try a tire store or shop. That should be a common nut.

Ray I bought some but they are a stainless steel finish. Were the original lugs black or body color? I just want it to look original. Thanks. Steve

Hi Steve,
Do you have any of the originals? I don't think the were like any modern day lug nut. I will have to verify this, but I believe they were flat on the bottom without any taper.
I recently purchased a hoard of 4 lug hubs and I might be able to scrounge up a few good ones. Maybe not a whole set.

Thanks Ray.... I will take what you can find Roger. PM me if you find any. Even one would help me to identify what they really look like. I might find something in an old flea market. Steve

Hi Steve,
Before looking through my stash, I googled the nut size. The modern day crown nuts are not shaped like the originals to get the proper depth to cover the lug, you would have to get the extended crown type, which is very odd looking.
For some reason that I have lost memory of, there are two sizes in my collection. When I confirm that size with a known thread, I will let you know, but I'm sure I have enough extra for a complete set.
Question to disc wheel car owners. Since my sedan came with wood wheels, I'm having to build up my disk wheel conversion by collecting the hubs, drums, disks, clamp rings and nuts. Some of my hubs came with the ring and the 4 nuts. Some had a heavy split washer and some just the nut. Looking at the clamp rings it appears there was a washer there. Should there be the washer?

Roger I have what looks like the extended acorn lug nuts on mine. They look like modern chrome nuts and they look out of place. I bought some stainless steel acorn nuts from Fastenal but would like originals. The thread size on mine is 7/16" X 20. The face of my lug nuts are flat and no washer between them and the hub flanges. Maybe I have the original type nuts and someone chromed them. There isn't any reference to washers in the '25 parts book, just hub flange and nuts. Steve

The Parts List does not list, or picture the standard bolts, screws, nuts and washers, but they do list and depict the acorn nut. Notice on the nut that the depth of the nut is mostly taken up by the hex. I still think there is a thick washer between the clamp ring and the nut. Otherwise the tightening of the nut directly on the ring would dig into the ring and none of my rings show this. Also the nut without the washer could cause the nut to bottom out on the stud. Will someone verify this?

I'd like to know as well. I've been driving mine like this for 15 years and never had any problems. Steve

Hi Steve, Will someone dispell, or confirm the presence of a split ring lock washer between the clamp ring and the crown nut on a 1925 disc wheel?
As l was sorting through my spare lug nuts, some were very evident that they had been tightened next to a split washer.
Also l would hesitate to tighten the nut if it were rubbing directly on my freshly painted clamp ring. Send me your mailing address and l will send you a set of the original acorn nuts. Roger

Based on what I have observed I don't believe that split lock washers were originally used between the acorn nuts and reinforcing plates.
