am old so when i was younger we used something called # 2 permatex sealer when we put freeze plugs in friend says they some kind red sealant that works a lot better does any one have a ny idea what the name of the red type of sealant he said it is very sticky thats all he could remember he old like me

I believe it was the red Permatex - Can't remember what number it was but the different numbers were different colors.
It was the type that dried hard.

The sealant recommended for freeze plugs is Permatex #1. It is hard setting. #2 does not get hard. Most others are silicone.

I often use a product branded "STAG", it is a brown paste a bit thicker than silicone.
