I was browsing a Canadian Fisher Body parts manual tonight and I noticed it shows 3 floor mats in my model of coupe.
1) Mat, Front Floor: Obvious one and knew about that one. 2) Mat, Rear of front seat: Shows my car and only a model 12 Chev had this. (suspect model 12 is a Master Coupe as it's paired with my car in the service manual too) 3) Mat, Rear compartment floor: Shows my car and all Chev models had this.
Rear compartment one also seems obvious but is long gone. It appears to have covered the metal floor below the spare tire and over the tool tray area.
It's the "rear of front seat" mat that makes me scratch my head as there is only about 4" of floor behind the seat before the plywood wall that separates the cab from rear compartment. The floor in this area has a thick nicely finished sound deadener bonded to the metal. Could the deadner be the mat referred to or is it possible they actually put a skinny mat back there where you could barely see it?

12 is the designation for the Master Deluxe model. If there is no body style noted this may apply to all Master Deluxe Chevy cars.
The business coupe body style is 17.
Do you have the part number for the mystery floor mat?

IN the US version the Master Deluxe coupe is a 1017 and the Master a 1217. The 1939 parts book does not show a rubber rear compartment mat for either. It does for 1939 but thet had a larger floor area. The US business coupes never had a trunk floor mat for a business coupe. This is including up through 1948. The front floor mat was black for the Master and brown for the Master Deluxe. The 1937-1938 rumble seat coupes and cabroilet did have a rear compartment mat but the had a larger space in that area due to the outside mounted spare tire.

My mistake - 10 is the Master Deluxe and 12 is the Master - same code is used in Canada and USA.

Thanks Gene and Tom,
I was tired when looking and didn't look close enough. I've attached pictures of one parts manual in the members area. Looks like lots of models had mats but not mine which is what I expected.
I find the parts manuals frustrate me. Doesn't help that I have Canadian Pontiac, Canadian all models, Canadian Chevy, USA Chevy and USA Pontiac Parts manuals as they all cover something for my car. I also have different year versions of the manuals as well. By the time I research and cross reference, I've pretty much forgotten what I'm looking for or I find something more interesting to look into...

Floor mats, I wondered why 38 Chevrolet designers would put the master cylinder access below the driver side carpet only to realize carpets are not stock. I intend on removing the carpets, install sound deadening mats and use original style rubber mats. Carpets look nice and feel good, but look bad when they get dirty and or wear out.

My coupe came with a basic rubber mat in the front as I believe they all had in 38. It was trunk and other mats that I was originally questioning.

Hey Tim, from your listing the 39 coupe didn't have a rear floor mat either but I see one in the brochure and matches the rib direction on my front mat. The brochure also says "Front floor mat insulated" so rear mat is likely just a rubber runner. Mike

The 1939 is different in that respect because it had an actual luggage area where as it was a very narrow space in 1938.
