I have a NOS head, casting number 837230, that I would like to use. Question is the intake valve guides look to to be different than in my current head with the same casting number. On my original head the spring seat is held in place by the guide, on the NOS head it appears that the spring seat just floats on the guide and is held in by the spring pressure?? Is this correct? The new head will come with the later "straight" side guides. The only change will be to use the part# 838539 seat under the valve spring. That seat is used on all 216 engines up through 1953. Do not confuse this number with the 837539 seat which is the part number of the original seat.
