Will a solid lifter cam adapt to a powerglide engine using the solid lifters?

You can install a solid lifter cam and solid lifters in a 1956 Hyd. lifter engine but can not install Hyd. lifters and cam in a 1956 solid lifter engine. All 1956 235 car engines had Hyd. lifters and all truck engines had solids.

The lifterd can be disassembled and cleaned but that is seldom necessary.

gentleman am buying engine from stated that the car has not been started for many years finally started the engine and it ran but did not run smoothly it had a slight miss from possibly valves not functioning they way they should took head off and did a valve grind and engine ran a little smoother but still seemed it was not quite right could it be that a couple of lifters are not working correctly which could cause the engine to miss andy

will lifters that are stuck from non use from many years eventually start working after engine has bee run for awhile or would it be better to pull them out and soak them in something like marvel mystery oil to help free them up of course i would mark all the lifters to put them back in the order they were removed some also fill me in on the water pump difference i guess i should post for that question

No one can predict what the lifters will do. If it were my engine I would change the oil and fill with a good 5W-30 adn see what happens. To clean they can be disassembled and cleaned with kerosene or MMO. If the front plate is exchanged the oil pan will need to be removed. This is good as the pan and oil pump screen can be cleaned. If the front plat is removed the oil grove that carries oil to the timing gears can be cleaned out preventing a timing gear failur. The tall lobes on the 1956 camshaft may not pass through the cam hole in the front mounting plate. Don't let the socalled 40,000 fool yu. It is very unlikely a 60 year old engine has the ACTUAL number of miles as advertised and some of those engines were worn out by 40,000 miles + years of sitting with dirty acid filled oil, etc.

i agree with you on the 40000 it must be 140000 which is why i am going to go thru the engine .the guy and i both said to each other that is must be higher then 40 thousand but looking at the car and its overall condition no rust seats are darn near perfect especially the rear it left both of us scratching our heads
