Anyone just block off the riser by putting a plate in between. ?? I'm not driving this in the winter anyway. Thoughts anyone?

Thanks

I had a '35 Std for over 40 years with a frozen heat riser I
could never free up. I looked for a replacement manifold with
a working riser, with no luck. Finally, in desperation, I
decided to just block it off; it was directing too much heat
under the carb causing a hot weather driving problem. No luck
finding parts to fix original, either. Obtained a piece of
stainless steel, approximately 1/16 thick, cut and shaped it to fit, and installed it about 10 years ago, between the manifolds. Solved the problem with no driveability side effects effects other other than on a cold day
leaving a little 'choke' on a few minutes longer during warm-up

Did you use a gasket on both sides of the SS plate.

No, I just used one gasket. I even re-used the original since
appeared to be undamaged.

I have had a 35 Std. since 1971. I do know that I drilled out the heat riser shaft and replaced it with a stainless rod. It has worked for many years. I do give it squirt of graphite lube occasionally.
